Creating a Fun Treasure Hunt Game for Your Dog
This treasure hunt game is one of our favorite ways to keep Linus entertained and engaged. It’s a mentally stimulating activity that helps him practice impulse control, puts his powerful sense of smell to work, and is perfect for days when we can’t get in a long hike or bike ride—or when it’s just too hot or rainy.

How the Treasure Hunt Works:
Pick the Treasure: Choose some of Linus’ favorite treats or snacks.
Set Up the Hunt: Have Linus wait on his place cot where he can’t see what we’re doing—either in another part of the house or outside.
Hide the Treasure:
Start with easy hiding spots, like treats left out in the open.
Gradually increase the challenge by hiding treats higher off the ground or gently burying them under sticks, leaves, or towels.
The Search Command: Release Linus from his place with a simple cue like "Find it!"
It is so fun watching Linus’ nose in action—his ability to sniff out the treasure amazes us! He has never given up and always finds the treat, then runs back to his place cot for another round. We usually limit the game to 4-5 hunts to keep it exciting and prevent Linus from losing interest. It’s a fantastic bonding activity that taps into his natural sniffing instincts and also helps burn off some of that extra energy in a fun and engaging way!
